Teenagers armed with grenades and suicide vests are the lastest recruits for Sunni insurgents trying to find new ways to outwit heightened security measures and attack Americian and Iraqi forces, the United States military says. The use of boys also serves a propaganda purpose - the soldiers face criticism for harmming children if they fire back. They appeared to be using youths and weapon that are easier to hide like grenades as they face omnipresent checkpoints and convoys aimed at bolsterings sercurity gains that have caused the level of violence to plummet.

Opinion 1:Looks really can be deciving .The military has said in the past it believes Al-Qaeda in iraq and other insurgent groups are recruiting children because of their ability to avoid scrutiny. On May 9, US soldiers killed a 12-year-old boy said by the military to be involed in a grenade atttack in the northern city of Mosul.Residents said that he was a innnocent civilan. But the military said the boy was found with 10,000dinars (about S$13) in his hand, which they suggested he had been paid by insurgents.Nobody could thought that a innocent looking child does this.

Opinion 2:The US military released videos last year seized from suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq hideouts that showed militants training children who appeared as young as 10 to kidnap and kill. Children have also been used as decoys.Using and teaching children to kidnap and kill is very cruel.Once they grew up they may turn for the worse, bombs.Using bombs, lots of people will be killed.

Monday 1st of June
A malaysian orang-utan sanctuary where baby apes wear nappies, sleep in cots and are cared for by nurses dressed in masks and starched uniforms has drawn the wrath of environmentalists. At orang-utan island in Malaysia's north, tourists snap photos as they file past large windows looking onto a facility billed as the world's only rehabilitation and preservation facility for the endangered primates.Behind the glass, adorable baby orang-utan like two month old Tuah lie swaddledin nursery sheets and cling onto baby rattles.''He is seperated from from his mother because his hand got entangled in the mother's hair and was unable to feed,''says the facility chief veterinarian D.Sabapathy.But the care lavished in the animals, which are fed every two hours by a staff of seven nurses on duty round the clock, is lost on the environmentalists who says this is no way to treat wild animals facing the threat of extinction.
opinion 1:Baby orang-utans need to stay with their mother instead of being taken care by staff. Its mother will teach its young for the first four years or more on what to eat and how to look for food.If it is taken care by staff instead, when it returned to the wild,it do not know what to eat.Not knowing what to eat, it can eat something poisonous and can ill or even die.Worst of all,it do not know where to find food at all.It can die of hunger. With the help of its mother it know what can be eaten and what cannot and where to find food.
Opinion 2:Mr Sabapathy said infants were removed from their mother only if they were under-weigtht, neglected and at risk of dying, and that some mothers raised their own babbies, including one born last month. With their help only if this is the case, I am sure that the orang-utan will do well in their care.

Tiltle:small dogs, big bite

Summary :Smaller dogs may look cute but small dogs such as Jack Russel terries, malteses, shih tzus and others can pack a wallop in their bites.Since 2007, they have been responsible for just under half the 119 reported incidents of dog bites. Bigger dogs such as German Shepherds, rottweiler, Bull Dogs and siberian huskies accounted for less than 20% of th cases.

opinion 1:AVA is in the wake of a new rule. Is training important? But a slip can be fatal. The new rule is obedience training for all dogs . Small dogs can be as aggressive as big and medium dogs said a obedience trainer. It is important to sent dogs for obedience training as owners are able to control them if they are unleashed. The training teaches puppies and dogs to behave well in public as well as at home. This can also lower the risk of being bitten.10% of Singapore 53,000 dogs have been trained. It can cost from $300 to $500.There are at least 10 training firm in Singapore. There are 3 to 20 dogs in a class.

Oponion2:Looks really deceived everyone.Small dogs are so cute that most people thought that it is a gentle creature. Its unexpected that there is so many people bitten by small dogs than big dogs.Instead of dont judge a book by its cover, it is changed to dont judge a dog by its appearences.Or else, you will get a nasty bite.

Title:Headaches When pills offer no relief Date:Tuesday, December 23rd 2008

A new study of 584 patients which suggests that people may be overusing pain medication, to their detriment. 4 in 10 people surveyed said they were not satisfied with their treatment, the main reasons being insufficient pain relief and failure to reduce attacks. And the pain was so bad for 1 in 10 that they had to miss school or work for at least one week. The frequent usage of painkilling drugs is a red flag to doctors, who believe that they are being over used. The occasional painkiller for the occasional headache is not going to hurt. But according to a survey of patients in general practice clinics, about 1 in 5 used pain medication for more than 4days in a week a rate that doctors deem ecessive. Nearly half of those surveyed had frequent headaches 4 or more a month. "Over time, when the brain gets used to a certain level of painkillers and when they drop off because they are excreted from the body, the brain will give you a headache to get you to take a painkiller,"Dr Charles Siow, president of the Headache Society of Singapore (HSS). This brian-induced headache, also known as medication overuse headaches, would make painkillers decreasingly effective and the pain itself diffcult to treat over time. Headaches can cause serveral areas of head to hurt, including a network of nerves which extends over the scalp and certain nerves in the face, mouth and throat. Migraine headaches are more vulnerable to this kind of drug overuse, as they are recurrent and tend to be more severe and debiliating.

I felt that we should not always depand on painkiller pills.

Title:Small dog, big bites Date:Monday, December 22th 2008

Dogs may look cute but smaller dogs such as Jack Russell terriers, malteses, shih tzus and others can wallop in their bites. Since the start of last year, they have been responsible for just under half the 119 reported incidents of dog bites. Bigger dogs such as German Shepherds, rottweilers, bull dogs and siberian huskies accounted for less than 20 percent of the cases. The porpotion have been in the rise the last few years.Small dogs have been responsible for 35 percent of the 236 incidents of people being bitten by dogs from 2005 till now, according to statistics from the Agriculture Food and and Veterinary Authority (AVA).Small dog bites accounted for 28 percent of bite incidents in 2005, 32 percent in 2006, 45 percent last year and 42 percent so far this year. Bigger dogs accounted for just over 20 percent from 2005 till now. In the wake of new rules being proposed by AVA to make training compulsory for rottweilers, some professional trainers and enthusiasts are suggesting that it be made compulsory for other dogs, including small dogs. The AVA's recomdations on obedient training for rottweilers are based on recent spate of "vicious attack " by rottweilers on people and other dogs both here and other countries. 53,000 licensed dogs in Singapore, or about 40,000. If this is right, then they actually bite less than their population would suggest. There are about 323 licensed rottweilers and 300 German shepherds. While the number of biting incidents involving small dogs has been going up, such bite are far less likely to cause the damage that a bite a medium-sized or a big dog would cause.

I felt that sending small dogs and larger dogs to obedient training is a must, because then the dog will listen to its owner's command and won't lose control and hurt people.

Title:Singapore coastline getting dirtier Date:Tuesday, December 16th 2008

Despite public anti-littering campaigns and annual cleanups involving thousands of people , Singapore's coasts are dirtier than they were five years ago , according to new data . Over 9,755kg of waste , from plastic bags to refrigerators , was fished off beaches and mangroves during a mammoth cleanup in September , almost 400kg more than in 2007 .The cleanup was organised by International Costal Cleanup Singapore (ICCS) and was part of a worldwide drive . Locally , over 2,500 people from schoolchilderen to business execuitives and civil servants took part in the event , faningout to coastal areas from Changi to Jurong . The results of the the cleanup were recently computed by the entirely volunteer run ICCS . Lead coordinators N. Sivasothi described the cleanup as a stopgap measure , saying the only way to cut down on beach front trash is to encourage conservation . This year , about 2,530 volunteers participated in the September 20 th clean up , down from 2,860 last year . Organisers said the numbers were higher when when volunteers who worked on other days of the year were included . Plastic bags , straws and styrofaom have been a constant on the shorelines there and abroad for years . Larger items , such as refrigerator and tyres , have also been found , according to the organisers.

I felt that we should keep the environment clean and green, and not dumping rubbish into seas .Because rubbish will pollute the sea water , and the marine animals' live will be in danger.Throwing rubbish into sea is easy but when cleaning up is hard.

Title:Cyber bullies turn vicious Date:Monday,December 15th 2008

A 16-yearsold girl created fake profiles on popular social networking sites MySpace and Facebook with a single minded purpose :to be friends those she disliked in school. Once the connection were made , the teen turned on her schoolmates , hurling nasty insults at them . According to psychologist Vanessa Von Auer , the singaporean girl was discovered by the school before any of her victims could suffer any deep emotional scars . Psychologists, counsellors and teachers , however , are worried that the methods of singaporean cyber bullies have morphed into something more vicious than before. A survey found that a quater of 3,488 singaporean students polled had been victimised by cyber bullies . Traditionally , these bullies target vistims through e-mail messages or forum postings. Now , experts say , the bullying has turned "viral". The rising popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace , YouTube videos as well as multi-media messages has made the humiliation of the victims more widespread and more immediate than ever.

I felt that we should not humiliate others online just because they are not good to us, we should put ourselves in other people's shoes and think what will happen if we humiliate them online.
